What is a builders skip?
The classic 6 and 8-yard “builders” skips are open containers built for heavy, dense waste — brick, concrete, soil and hardcore. Our 6-yard (from £265) holds roughly 50–60 bin bags’ worth; the 8-yard (from £290) takes 60–80.
Sizing for the job
- Small renovations and bathrooms — 4 to 6-yard.
- Extensions and full refurbs — 6 to 8-yard.
- Strip-outs with lots of light, bulky waste — consider a 10-yard-plus, but keep heavy rubble in the smaller skips.
Heavy waste and weight limits
Rubble is dense, so builders skips have weight limits for safe lifting. Keep heavy waste in 6 to 8-yard skips and load level with the rim — overloaded skips can’t legally be transported. If you’re generating a lot of soil or concrete, ask us and we’ll advise on the safest arrangement.
Permits and site logistics
On private sites, no permit is needed. For skips on the public highway, we arrange the council permit and fit the required lighting. Order by 11am for next-day delivery so materials never pile up on site.
