Choosing the right skip size is the single biggest decision you will make when hiring a skip. Get it right and the whole job runs smoothly. Get it wrong and you are either paying for a second skip halfway through, or paying for a lot of empty space you never fill. This guide walks through every size we offer and the jobs each one is built for.
How skip sizes are measured
Skips are measured in cubic yards. As a rough rule of thumb, one cubic yard is about eight to ten standard bin bags of waste. So a 6-yard skip holds roughly 50 to 60 bin bags. It helps to picture your waste in bin bags before you book.
Small jobs: 2 to 4 yard skips
Mini and midi skips are ideal for garden clear-outs, small bathroom strip-outs, and general household decluttering. They fit neatly on a driveway and are the most affordable option. If you have a compact, one-room job, start with our 2 yard mini skip. These smaller skips are also the right choice for heavy waste like soil and rubble, which is only permitted in the smaller sizes.
Most home and trade jobs: 6 to 8 yard skips
The 6 yard builders skip is by far our most popular size. It is the sweet spot for kitchen and bathroom refits, small building projects and mixed construction waste, and it still takes heavy materials. For larger renovations or a busy site, step up to the 8 yard maxi skip, the largest skip that still accepts heavy waste.
Big clearances: 10 to 16 yard skips
Our 10 yard skip and larger sizes are built for bulky but lightweight waste, such as full house clearances, office strip-outs and shop fit-outs. Because of their size they are for light waste only, never soil or rubble.
Still not sure?
